Pennsylvania had many challenging rivers to go rafting on. Even more, many outfitters located inside of Pennsylvania run trips on rivers that may not be in Pennsylvania, but are very near by. For example, the Upper Youghiogheny, which is run by rafting outfitters in Ohiopyle Pennsylvania.
Many of the more challenging rivers are Class 4 and 5 rivers. This means that only experienced rafters should partake in these kinds of trips. You should have experience with a paddle in your hand and be a decent swimmer in pretty good shape. Many of these trips are physically demanding. The chances of your boat flipping or you falling out of your boat greatly increases on these types of trips.
When deciding on an outfitter for your advanced rafting trip, look for a company with alot of experience running that river. Ask them questions such as; Is there going to be a guide in my boat? How experienced are your guides on this river? and How is your safety record on this river?
