Training to become a white water rafting guide usually starts in ealry spring. March or April with most companies. If you are in school during those months, don't worry, most companies hold training on only the weekends until school is out. Training will be very physically demanding. Being in good shape is a requirement.

Different outfitters have different training schedules and drills. However, most of them include the core components of; boat control, rope training, swimming rapids, customer service training and CPR and First Aid.

In Pennsylvania, you are required to have CPR and First Aid Training. Some outfitters will give you this training, with others, you have to obtain it on your own. If you are already certified with CPR and First Aid, mention this to the outfitter you are applying for. They will ask for copies of your cards, so if you don't have them, get a copy of them.
